Run for Hope 2010 opens for registration

The National Cancer Centre Singapore (NCCS), Four Seasons Hotel Singapore and The Regent Singapore, organisers of Singapore's original charity run for cancer research, the "Run for Hope 2010", officially launched its registration website at www.runforhopesingapore.org.

Now into its 18th year, Run for Hope is the longest running fundraiser in Singapore, that aims to draw more than 8,000 runners to this year's event. This annual event is a spin-off from the 'Terry Fox Run' which Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts became the first corporate sponsor to support in 1980 and has been committed to throughout its 85 properties in 35 countries.

Since its inception in 1993, over 80,000 runners have pounded the tarmac for a good cause, raising more than S$3.5 million in the process. All the proceeds have gone into developing an array of basic, translational and clinical research programmes for cancer, providing holistic care and multidisciplinary-based treatment for cancer patients.

Professor Soo Khee Chee, Director for NCCS said, "We are very excited to be one of the partners for Run for Hope once again. This meaningful charity run will benefit numerous cancer patients and long-term cancer research. Last year, we raised close to S$300,000 and we aim to top that figure this year by receiving more donations and attracting more runners. These funds will develop various arms of the Centre, including new research, technology and clinical trials."

Last year's event was well supported and attended by both local and expatriate communities, business corporations, educational institutions, and local grassroots leaders and members. This year's run is themed 'Faces of Hope', paying tribute to those either battling cancer or those involved in cancer research. They include cancer beneficiaries, corporate sponsors, research fellows, and most importantly cancer survivors, all of whom are part of this extraordinary fund raising extravaganza.

Ezzy Wang, a 'Faces of Hope' personality and a well-known Singaporean cancer survivor, will be leading the run on the day.

Jacques Oudinot, Director of Rooms at Four Seasons Hotel, Singapore said, "Run for Hope is a corporate social responsibility initiative championed by the Four Seasons Hotel Singapore and The Regent Singapore, benefiting cancer research and cancer awareness advocacy. The group is committed to being a responsible and caring community partner by having a positive economic impact and supporting community goals, both within and outside the hotel. We are pleased once again to support Run for Hope and its broader campaign of eradicating cancer."

Run for Hope's 2010 sponsorship comes from various organisations. They include ASICS, Club 21, ELC, Forum The Shopping Mall, Mediacorp - Channel 5, National Parks Board and SuperNature. Runners can choose from either 4km or 10km. A kids' carnival has also been organised to make it a fun-filled experience for the whole family to enjoy.

Run for Hope 2010 will take place on Sunday, November 21, 2010 from 7:00 a.m. at East Coast Park's Angsana Green. This family themed event attracts non-competitive and serious runners from all walks of life.

Interested runners can register online at www.runforhopesingapore.org

This year the Four Seasons Group will be conducting an online charity auction. Registered run participants will be allowed to bid for amazing stays at various Four Seasons Hotels around the world including a seven-night dream stay at the Four Seasons Resort Maldives which includes a luxury cruise onboard the hotels signature yacht, The Explorer valued at S$14,000.

All proceeds from Run for Hope 2010 will go into funding cancer research with the hope that more lives can be improved or saved in the near future.
