From 15 January to 13 February 2011, the Museum Roundtable (MR) will welcome the Lunar New Year with free, one-of-a-kind rabbit-themed hongbaos (Mandarin for red packets) distributed at participating museums around the island.

Featuring 39 exclusive designs, each hongbao has been specially created to reflect the museum it represents. To get your hands on these unique festive collectibles, simply visit participating MR museums between 15 January and 13 February 2011.

These include the national museums, as well as public and private museums and heritage galleries such as the Army Museum of Singapore, Mint Museum of Toys, NEWater Visitor Centre and S’pore Discovery Centre. All hongbaos are available for distribution while stocks last.

In addition, the MR will also be offering limited gold edition hongbao box sets each comprising 48 gold hongbaos (including new designs) for sale at S$18 at the River Hongbao 2011 from 1 to 13 February 2011. This will be the first time Singapore museums are participating in the annual River Hongbao extravangaza. Aside from the sale of the hongbao box sets, visitors to the booth will also be able to purchase special rabbit-themed t-shirts and learn more about the many museums around our island.

Lunar New Year Open House

The National Heritage Board (NHB) is also extending the festive cheer with free entry to all NHB museums on 4 February 2011 with its Lunar New Year Open House Day. Join in a myriad of fun, family-friendly activities, and see Walter the Rabbit from the well-received Children’s Season 2010 make its comeback at the Singapore Art Museum. Or visit the Singapore Philatelic Museum and immerse in a Bunny Wonderland with rabbit stamps and philatelic materials from all over the world.
