Supernatural Pulau Ubin

As Singapore’s resident gateway back into the 1960s, it’s no surprise that Pulau Ubin has its share of supernatural history.

Supernatural Pulau Ubin

Legend has it that Bukit Puaka, literally translated into “Evil Spirit Hill”, is named as such because of several fatal accidents that happened over the years.

As the tallest point in Pulau Ubin, Bukit Puaka is also the place to catch a fantastic view as it overlooks the Ubin Granite Quarry with scenic views of Singapore and Malaysia.

If a mix of the supernatural or Chinese folk culture sounds more interesting, check out the Nadu Guniang (German girl) shrine located east of Pulau Ubin near Ketam Quarry.

It is believed that Nadu Guniang was the daughter of a coffee plantation manager who lived near the temple site in the early 20th century. At the end of World War 1, while escaping from British soldiers, she fell to her death in a quarry and her body was only discovered the next day.

Nobody is absolutely sure how she came to be worshipped as a “deity”, but some Singaporeans and even foreigners visit her to pray for 4D and Toto numbers, or blessings. Pay her a visit and you might just get lucky.
