Yoshi has been living in Singapore for ten years and works as a operations manager by day. The Japanese, who loves food and shopping, also reveals why he chose to become a host on the Singapore Discovered! series.
Q: Why did you make the decision to work in Singapore - what drew you in and made you choose Singapore above all other countries?
Yoshi: When I did my high school and university in Australia, I made a lot of Singaporean friends. I heard a lot of good things about Singapore and I was really attracted by the country. The things that attracted me was: the hot weather, good food and nice people!!
Q: What were some of your best initial encounters when you arrived in Singapore?
Yoshi: Things that I was surprised with was how wide and clean the expressway from Changi Airport to city is, and how impressively beautiful Changi Airport is.
Q: What do you love best about Singapore?
Yoshi: Of course, people here are the best essense! I love them all! Accommodating and kind.
Q: Tell us a little bit about Singapore Discovered! - and your decision to be part of the show.
Yoshi: On this show, audience can ‘discover’ the many small things that Singaporeans may not notice but noticed by someone new to Singapore, i.e. a foreigner like myself. Audience will be amazed how much things we can see and do in this country even though the geographical area is very small.
Q: In filming the show, what did you discover about Singapore that you never knew existed?
Yoshi: I was able to see the 'real malay culture' in Kampong Glam, and rich and gorgeous Peranakan Culture which has very similar character as Singpoare nation itself (in terms of inclusion, fusion, and 'rojak'). On the practical side, I was able to learn 'how to market in Wet Market'.
Q: What are some of your favourite hangouts in Singapore?
Yoshi: Singapore has so many favorite places, but I often go to the local coffeeshop and have coffee.
