It’s been a year since the SIF’s Young Social Entrepreneurs (YSE) 2010 programme ended, and many of the groups who participated have gone on to develop their social enterprises. We take a look at SIF’s social innovators and how they are helping to build a better world.
Rattan Khmer
Rattan Khmer consists of three Vietnamese and a Singaporean, previously students at Republic Polytechnic (RP). They have all graduated but continue working together on their business.
Their social enterprise focuses on providing training on product enhancement and marketing skills to villagers that weave baskets for their livelihood in Ballangk Commune in Siem Reap, Cambodia.
Having launched their enterprise last year, Rattan Khmer are taking it a step further by working with RP students in setting up a website to sell the baskets online. The website is slated to be beta-tested in March this year, and will provide another avenue for the Cambodian villagers to sell their products.
