Top 5 things to do in Singapore

Liesel Duhon asks happening young thing Joyce Star Tan to reveal the 'real' Singapore to Mao's Last Dancer star Chi Cao.

Top 5 things to do in Singapore

Controversy rages across the Island!

It seems that not everyone agrees with the star of our last blog Chi Cao, dancer and lead in Bruce Beresford's stunning film Mao's Last Dancer.

Chi reckons the best thing about Singapore is that "it's clean and has a lot of trees" - his words, not ours.  He's right about Singapore's sparkling state, but you and I know how much more there is to our city.  So enough protests, let's counter the clean-freak cliches and tell the hugely-talented Mr Cao exactly what he missed during his whistle stop tour.

We asked some of Singapore's happening young things to give us their top 5 things to do on the island.

First cab off the rank is the gorgeous Ms Joyce Star Tan, actress, host, model and groovy girl around town.

Keep those ideas coming in - who knows, maybe you could show Chi around next time he's in town.

Joyce Star Tan's top 5 fun things to do in Singapore

1. EAT Singapore's Spiciest Chicken Wings @ Singapore Sunset Grill and Pub

Where: You start off by going to the middle of nowhere (near Seletar Airbase) and end up in Hell, blind with tears and your tongue on fire!

Why: Burn baby burn!

What: You get to be a hero with increasing grades of hot! hot! hot! Ranging 1 - 10. The higher the number, the spicier the wings.

Your choice: Which would you rather be - crazy or chicken?

2. SHOP at 4am @ Singapore's 24-hour mall Mustafa Centre, which sells over 120,000 products!

Where: In the heart of Little India

Why: Just 'coz you can.

What: Where else can you get everything under the sun under one roof!

Your choice: What do buy? Decisions Decisions... Eeni Mini Myni Mo...

3. MASSAGE @ one of Asia's biggest and highly acclaimed outdoor spas, Spa Botanic, or the popular and novel Kenko Fish Spa.

Where: Google to find location details.

Why: If you have the cash, splash.

What: Are in the mood for pampering and indulging yourself in a lush garden setting? Or laughing uncontrollably while a swarm of flesh eating fish tickle your soles?

Your Choice: The "Too Expensive To Relax" Full Body Treatment or The "Tortured Soles" Package?

4. SWIM with the pink dolphins at Sentosa or DIVE with the sharks at Underwater World, Sentosa.

Where: Sentosa, a man-made island not-very-far-at-all-off Singapore.

Why: So you can meet a world of sea creatures including the rare dugong (sea cow). Or the little mermaid, if you are lucky.

What: You can also experience the thrill of being a dolphin trainer for a day. As for diving with the sharks, unless you show no fear, non-certified divers get a fully equal chance to experience being live bait!

Your Choice: Free Willy? Or Jaws?

5. CLUB @ Clark Quay

Where: In between Boat Quay and Mohammed Sultan

Why: So you can be a tourist, even if you are Singaporean.

What: Eat, Drink and be merry!

Your Choice: Why choose? Do all three - Eat, Drink and be merry!
