Singapore filmmaker Sherman Ong (back row, third from left) recently held a workshop for young aspiring filmmakers in Sri Lanka.

Ong, who is also a photographer, taught 16 participants about filmmaking techniques, theories and concepts with the support of SIF’s Singapore Internationale arts and culture grant.

The students developed their own short films and produced three works together during the nine-day workshop organised by the Kandy International Film Festival in Sri Lanka.

Ong was invited to lead the workshop in September by the festival committee after his film, Memories of a Burning Tree, was screened at the festival’s debut this year.
